Our kitchen staff will work hard to accommodate any dietary restrictions that Scouts or adults may have. Please communicate your dietary needs to us no less than 14 days before the start of camp.  Depending on the dietary restriction, we may ask that you bring your own food to camp to ensure a safe meal for you or your Scout.

This policy is effective February 1, 2025 and supersedes any prior policy of the Verdugo Hills Council, and pertains to dietary restrictions in our Summer Camp kitchen.

Sensitivity to peanuts and food made with peanuts is an increasing risk to Scouts with such an allergy.  At Verdugo Hills Council, we ask that no peanuts be brought into our camps.

Foods sent in for snack or lunch at our Cub Day Camps and Ropes Academy should be carefully checked to make sure they are peanut free. Any food or snacks sent via Camp Mail to our Resident Camp Programs should also be carefully checked as well!

This means that all food products can not contain peanuts and can not have the following warnings: “may contain…”, “processed in a facility…”, and “manufactured on shared equipment…”

Scout families can help ensure that our camps stay peanut free by reading packaging labels and by reminding children not to share food with other children at camp.

This policy applies to:
Cub Scouts -  Resident Camp
Scouts BSA/Venturers - Aquatics Camp, Rescue 911 Camp

Purpose of Range & Target Activities in Scouting

The purpose of range & target activities in Scouting is to teach firearm safety while introducing youth to a variety of fun, interactive program experiences. Scouting’s range & target activities are developed and implemented through age-appropriate training and experiences.

Scouting America adheres to its longstanding policy of teaching its youth and adult members the safe, responsible, and intelligent handling, care, and use of firearms, archery, and hand-held throwing sports in planned, carefully managed, and supervised programs for each youth who chooses to participate.

Each youth must have a Range & Target Activities Permission Form completed and signed by a parent or legal guardian and turned in at camp check-in to participate in range and target activities at Camp Verdugo Oaks. One form per youth, per camp program. No exceptions.

Another activity will be substituted should any participant choose not to participate.

This policy is effective February 1, 2025 and supersedes any prior policy of the Verdugo Hills Council.
